The Planet Aid money machine

Five ways we think Planet Aid Inc and related enterprises move money from old clothes and ‘humanitarian donations’ into the Teachers Group’s offshore bank accounts, based on analysis of public documents.  They are:  keeping unreasonably large amounts for ‘administration’ costs; using massive grants from international agencies (like the USDA) as cover for diverting money from clothes sales; paying six per cent of charity income into a Swiss account; using a wholly-owned US clothes broker (a sister company) to cream off money from sales; and paying interest on loans – there are several unexplained loans in Planet Aid’s accounts.

We also believe it is likely Planet Aid ‘pays itself’ for the supply of its metal collection boxes through companies in China.  And, of course, all the money that Planet Aid does send to Africa is shipped out directly to its own ‘Teachers Group’ subsidiaries in far-away Africa, or paid into TG bank accounts as supposed ‘salaries’ for TG ‘aid workers’ abroad, who actually work for nothing.

Datum magazine investigates Humana Austria and finds only a small portion of the money it makes goes to charity. (September 2010)

Clothes make the man – In Austria, they are part of the street scene: the containers of Humana. For a good cause. Humana claims to be a charity. But the club is everything: commercial and non-transparent. Only a fraction of the donations end up in Africa.
Kleider machen Leute – In Österreich gehören sie zum Straßenbild: die Container von Humana. In ihnen landen Kleiderspenden. Für den guten Zweck. Humana gibt vor, eine Hilfsorganisation zu sein. Doch der Verein ist mehr: kommerziell und undurchsichtig. Nur ein Bruchteil der Spenden landet in Afrika.

The main business address for Humana People-to-People is in Geneva, Switzerland.  For what reason?   Research shows that the Teachers Group has been moving large sums of money in and out of Switzerland, famous for its financial secrecy, since at least 1996.    It maintains three business entities in Geneva  – the Federation for the Associations Connected to the International Humana People-to-People Movement,  Humana and Planetaid Finance SA, and The Gaia-Movement Trust Living Earth Green World Action.

According to newspaper reports, the Teachers Group has also moved $32 million from Denmark into Swiss numbered accounts in Zurich.

We are trying to penetrate the secrecy surrounding these businesses.

Newly restored to the site. Stina Fernstrom was a Swedish recruit to the Teachers Group, and this is an astonishing first-hand account of life inside the Teachers Group in its early days in the 1970s, when cult leader Amdi Petersen is said to have ordered mass sterilisation for women, there was extensive paranoia and ‘mind control’, and a TG members took a decision in principle at a secret ‘common meeting’ to kill any member identified as a ‘traitor’ (all these claims have been separately confirmed). U’SAgain bins in Madison, Wisconsin, were placed illegally, the Wisconsin State journal reports (29th July 2010).    Messages to us at www.tvindalert.com indicate that illegal placing of bins is a frequent occurrence with all Teachers Group ‘charity’ clothing operations (Planet Aid, Gaia, Green World, Humana People-to-People, DAPP-UK) in many different countries.

Our revised and updated dossier on the Trayton Group in Shanghai, and its associated companies in the United States and elsewhere.  The Trayton Group is run by Teachers Group member Simon Lichtenberg, and manufactures sofas which are sold in within China and all over the world.    Lichtenberg has denied his company is a ‘Teachers Group company’, but admits passing more than $1m a year to Tvind.

Do timber and raw materials for Chinese furniture manufacture come from the Teachers Group’s controversial forest plantation in Brazil – acquired in the 1990s and the subject of subsequent police inquiries ?

The Teachers Group is now selling its own Chinese-made furniture and other goods in Mozambique through two stores in Maputo, ‘Sofa City‘ and ‘Office City‘, according to an informant.    The sofas and furniture for sale are made by Trayton, the Teachers Group furniture factory in Shanghai run by the very senior TG member Simon Lichtenberg. Sofa City is believed to be a part of Teachers Group company CATLINK (China-Africa Trade Link), a TG import-export company registered in China.

Help!  – due to a lack of any staff or resources, it is proving impossible to keep the site adequately updated, despite a torrent of news and information pouring in. There are now more than 30 items waiting to be posted, including important stories about the death of a volunteer in a car crash in Norway, Humana in Australia, and a new crime novel based on Amdi Petersen.  I cannot keep up.  If you can offer help to update and maintain this site, please contact me. Good news: through the Aid Alert Foundation, I have appointed four London University development studies students as Interns to carry out research on the Humana People to People network and on aid abuse issues generally. All four are undergraduate or postgraduate students at the prestigious School of Oriental and African Studies and will be carrying out work experience as volunteers. The results will be published on Tvind Alert or Aid Alert and press released to the media.    Aid Alert is still looking for a voluntary part-time fundraiser and a webmaster.    For more information see www.aidalert.org.uk.

Activists have spray-painted Humana boxes in Berlin with a stencilled message, ‘Who is Amdi Peterson? Please read up BEFORE you contribute!’ Anonymous informants have sent us pictures of boxes bearing the graffito, which apparently started appearing in 2008. Humana cleans the boxes and attaches a note claiming the vandals are being prosecuted – but we have not been told of any prosecutions, and the stencils keep appearing. Tvind Alert has nothing to do with this shocking vandalism….and couldn’t possibly endorse such outrageous lawbreaking……but we agree it is a very good question.
