Now Amdi will only be able to se his girlfriend if they get married

Los Angeles: Today Mogens Amdi Petersen is still detained in the filthy
Kern County Jail in Bakersfield. But already tomorrow or the day after,
the Tvind leader will be taken to the infirmary of the far more
comfortable Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles. And here he
might have to stay for months.

"It isn't healthy for anyone to be in prison. And for a man in
Petersen's condition it can be almost unbearable", his lawyer Robert
Shapiro said. And if everything works out as planned Shapiro's client
will get a far better treatment than most prisoners in Los Angeles'
federal prison system.

In Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) there are about 700 prisoners
spread out at several different wards. Amdi Petersen will be accomodated
at the eighth ward, which is the infirmary. The Tvind leader suffers
from gout, migraine and allegedly also anxiety attacks. Ward eight is
the only place in the prison where he can get the medication required
and continuous supervision by doctors and nurses.

"Amdi is not seriously ill, but he could become so if he doesn't get his
medicine", sources in the Robert Shapiro quarters say. At MDC Petersen
will either get a single cell or he will share it with one other
prisoner. It is however sheer luxury compared to the concrete paved big
cell he right now shares with 25 to 31 other prisoners.

The luxury prison in downtown Los Angeles provides both TV, library and
a small store where Petersen can buy magazines, books, sweets and other
pastime objects. He may also excercise in the fitnet centre, should he
find pleasure in that.

And, like the other prisoners, he will be allowed at least 300 minutes
of phone call time per month. These valuable minutes will, according to
Robert Shapiro, be divided equally between Petersen's Danish and
American lawyers.

There is however one major drawback with staying at MDC. Amdi will only
be allowed visits from siblings, wife and children. And since he isn't
married to his partner Kirsten Larsen the couple will only be able to
communicate by letters - unless of course they let the prison's priest
marry them.

Sources from defense lawyer Robert Shapiro's office say that the lawyer
is planning a kind of appeal, a so called "reopening" of the bail case.

Sources from the prosecutor's side, however, maintain that such an
attempt can only fail. And several lawyers that Berlingske Tidene talked
to during the breaks of the trial did more than just hint that Amdi
Petersen made a big mistake by engaging the shockingly expensive
Shapiro. He is said to be excellent at crime cases but he has, on the
other hand, no or little experience of federal court cases in general or
extraditions in particular.

Poul Jørgensen: Amdi is not the head of Tvind

Amdi Petersen is not the actual leader of Tvind, Poul Jørgensen, the
unofficial spokesman of the organisation, claims.

Petersen's American lawyer Robert Shapiro, on the other hand, made a
point of Amdi Petersen's status as Tvind leader when he tried to get him
released on bail - a tactic that failed during Friday's trial.

Half a million people in Africa are dependent on Amdi's continued work
to give them lodging and medical treatment, Shapiro asserted.

Isn't that a confirmation that Amdi Petersen is the actual leader of
your organisation? "No, it's not. And besides, I refuse to comment on
those issues that the police might find crucial in their prosecution of
some people and have them condemned", Poul Jørgensen says. He refers to
the fact that he himself is one of the persons prosecuted in the Tvind
case. "I think that my freedom of speech is more restricted than that of
the commissioner (in Holstebro), and I don't feel like getting arrested.
As to the rest, the commissioner and the prosecutor really shouldn't
make comments to the media about the question of guilt. They ought to
keep their comments for the court hearings. It is in court the defendant
or accused has a chance to defend himself."

According to himself, Poul Jørgensen has had no personal contact with
Amdi Petersen since the Tvind founder was arrested at the Los Angeles
airport. He also points out that he no longer is the official spokesman
for Tvind.

"I haven't been that for many years. I am president of the three funds
we have, which own property and ships in this country. If you have any
questions about those I'd be pleased to give you answers", Poul
Jørgensen says.
