Co dokladnie mowia, nie wiem, bo wyjechalismy na fundraising dzien pozniej i nie slyszalam dluzszych wypowiedzi. Ja jestem teraz na fundraisingu w sztokholmie - najlepsze jest to, ze nie mamy akomodacji, nie mamy pieniedzy (musielismy kupic bilety na pociag, bo w szwecji podobnoz jazda stopem jest zabroniona, a poza tym ludziom ktorzy ze mna tu przyjechali nieco odbija w tym kierunku) i jeszcze nie moge nikogo spotkac, bo dwojka z nich (cyril i jaakko) nie przyszla na meeting, na ktory sie umowilismy, a reszta ma przyjechac do sztokholmu jakims niewidzialnym autobusem (pytalam na dworcu autobusowym, sprawdzalam w rozkladach jazdy i wyglada na to, ze owy autobus nie istnieje - co zreszta nie dziwi mnie specjalnie, bo siedza juz w malmo od wczorajszego wieczora przegapiajac wszystkie kolejne polaczenia, heh).

Podczas naszej niewolniczej pracy w Goeteborgu w UFF CENTER SORTING poznaliśmy Polkę ,ktra też przyjechała tam pracować ale po pierwszym dniu pobytu opowiedziała nam,że nie przyjechała tu po to by być wolontariuszką ale musiała uciekać z domu bo przespała się z najlepszym przyjacielem jej narzeczonego i zobaczyła ogłoszenie w prasie była na infomitingu i na wszystkie warunki jakie jej zaproponowała ta sekta zgodziła się. Zachowywała się dziwnie spokojnie,często siedziała sama w kuchni i patrzyła na sufit.Miała problemy ze swoją psychiką i widać było,że jest w innym świecie. My nie wiemy jakie warunki z nią ustalano bo każdy chętny do pracy dla tej sekty ma indywidualne rozmowy.

W pierwszym dniu pracy w UFF przypadkiem zobaczyłem jak owa Anka vel Marta kradnie bluzkę damską i stanik i dość ostro zwrciłem jej uwagę by tego nie robiła bo my Polacy też tu pracujemy i co sobie o nas pomyślą inni ludzie.

Od tego dnia owa Anka vel Marta przestała się do mnie odzywać. My pracę zakończyliśmy po około trzech tygodniach od poznania tej osoby. Jest to dziewczyna ,ktra zachowaniem swoim przypomina 5 letnie dziecko a ma około 22 lat.

O naszych problemach w Tvind i Bogence tylko słyszała z ust sekciarzy bo nie była razem z nami tam i nie widziała co myśmy przeszli a lodwkę z Tvind zamykaną na kłdkę mamy na zdjęciu i wiele innych atrakcji tej sekty o ktrej Anka vel Marta jeszcze nie wie.

W szkole w Bogence są domki drewniane oddalone od szkoły i to tam nas izolowano w czasie infomitingu przez trzy dni ,my mamy to na kasecie video i na zdięciach ale nie jesteśmy tymi kłamstwami zaskoczeni bo po takiej drodze kłamstwa i chamstwa jakie nam zafundowała ta sekta uodporniliśmy się na wyznania uciekającej przed życiem dziewczyny typu Anka vel Marta.

I can't speak for the other schools but I am sure that anyone who has worked at the Bustrup school will have had a great experience. The teachers there are committed people who genuinenly care about their students' welfare and development. I had a great time there and so did many other 'volunteers' and Teacher Group people that I knew well. They also did a lot for the ethnic minorities in the local area, like Palestinians and Tamils etc, who are often otherwise excluded from society at large to an extent in Denmark. They invited them to the school, had special programs for them at the schools, served halal food, encouraged diverse traditions and much more. There was a lot of theatre, music and sport, and caring for the environment and animals. I loved that place and the people, and there was certainly none of the 'exploitation' described by one writer below. I am sorry that the movement has taken a wrong turn with this tax evasion allegation and I hope they can get over it. I agree with the 'former TG member' below who said that they should go for full compliance with the letter and the spirit of the law. It would be a shame to see all that hard work gone to waste. I certainly wouldn't want to see the Bustrup school and teachers tarred with the same brush. That's my two pennies worth!

It's a shame that otherwise useful contributions like some below from the 'former TG member' for example seem to prompt such moronic responses. I was a vulunteer some years ago at a Danish Tvind school and I too found it a 'rewarding' experience personally. Of course we should all be doing things that reward us personally - it's not ALL about philanthropy. Perhaps because I am of rather more mature years than the 'average' volunteer (and I met many during my stint) I had few of the 'hang ups' that others describe. I did not find the organisation exploitative. I DID have many questions to raise with the principal at my school and the discussions about teaching techniques, materials, lifestyle were ongoing. But it was not exploitative. I did some work too for DAPP in Denmark and that too was rewarding for me and for my class group. Though classed as a 'volunteer' I received a reasonable wage and soem of my financial obligations in the UK were paid by the school. I know many of the other young volunteers and can't imagine any of them writing the accounts that this site posts. They all had a good time, more or less, and went on to do good things. I know of one who went on to be a TG member for two years but then quit, but remained at the school as a salaried teacher. As one of the TG teachers told me frequently: 'You can have it as you want it in the TG.'

Tvind has been passed off to you as being "an experiment in living." In reality it is an experiment in how much Tvind can get away with, making money off the backs of ego-centered persons like you who want to believe they are living lofty, novel and insightful lives. Every "former TG member" who continues to defend Tvind seems to need to sidestep that reality, so obviously Tvind's fun little experiment is working. What colour are the emperor's clothes today, did you say?

You say it was rewarding for you to live "in the way of Tvind." At least you are honest enough to admit that your involvement was about YOU, for your own reward. (as opposed to proclaiming your reasons for involvement to be for service, for the betterment of the world -- TG members often skew that perception-- that is to say, that what they want to perceive as making a BIG, IMPORTANT contribution is actually just an experiment in patting themselves on the back for blindly doing what their leaders are telling them is "the right work, the only work, the very BEST kind of work" -- You, it seems are at least saying you were involved with the TG because what you did, whatever it was, felt good to YOU. It's all about motivation.)

If the TG wants to go off and live their lives collectively, without exploiting anybody (from child "small school students" to volunteers to the "targets-populations" of ill-founded, half-formulated development projects in the Third World, to NGOs, to the well-meaning governmental bodies -- scorned all the way by the TG -- who have been convinced over the years to fund TG programmes all over the world in the name of selfless service), I have no problem with that. And I would have no problem with the TG using the money they make (ALL OF IT) to actually do the work they say they are doing with it. But the TG isn't set up to work like that -- it hasn't been from the first. It's set up to make money -- LOTS OF IT -- for the interests of the upper echelon TG leaders. If you don't understand that, then you ARE naive.

My experience with Tvind and the TG confirms everything Steen Thomsen had to say in his report. Where have you been that YOU don't see it?

Thank you for your responses to my commnents below on the request for reports of actual meetings with Amdi Petersen. My comments are based solely on my experience in the TG schools in Denmark, so I cannot comment on Tvind as a development organisation. Just as I proposed that the TG follow the letter and spirit of the law regarding taxation and fiscalpolicy, I believe that they should also abide by whatever code of practice exists to ensure the good governance and maximum effectiveness of their development projects. For those who have not experienced Tvind, it is, as one person mentioned below, an experimental way of living, and can be a very renewing and rewarding experience. Steen Thomsen's report is written with extreme bias. I hope that not everyone will view Tvind and the TG in the manner in which he has painted it. I, like many of you, have criticisms of Tvind. But my criticisms are based on experience and a willingness to contribute constructively. Many of the criticisms offered on this site (though I accept by no means all) are not based on personal experience, but are merely prejudicial to the wish of TG members to live their lives collectively in the manner they choose. My hope is that they would continue to exist (and thrive) alongside the Danish or other educational systems and international aid and development organisations, but in a way that ensures they follow the letter and spirit of the law. The Danes have made a witchhunt of their persecution of Tvind and the TG. To those who consider me naive or the victim of subtle brainwashing, I assure you that my thoughts are based on long term consideration, but there is little I can offer in my defence. The accusation of naivety is a powerful and rather disarming one which may cause others to disregard my views. I could have said the same about you but I choose not to, favouring instead open debate. Is it simply that people like the Former TG Member below are naive? Is that what it is? Is it that they are so truly uneducated, unskilled, inexperienced in how one goes about doing real, intentional development work, that they don't know enough to understand that the activities of Tvind are minimally effective for their supposed target populations? The latest request on the home page of this site for reports from people who have actually met Amdi Petersen is a cynical exercise. It is an attempt at a self-fulfilling prophecy masquerading as an attempt to establish fact. Anyone who has read the personal reports that are already posted about the various experiences of former members of the TG and volunteers will know that the the findings are bound to focus on his 'charisma' and ability to 'manipulate' people. I don't think you really want to hear these accounts from people because you have already made up your mind(s) that Amdi and/or the TG is interested in mind-control or brain-washing. This exercise will only serve to reinforce the image that you already have/propagate about Amdi. For the record, I HAVE met Amdi. It was while I was a member of the TG, and he IS charismatic. But I dispute the assertion made in reports on your site (particulalry by former member and firemoeller/winestead principal Steen) that either Amdi P. or the TG are involved in mind control or brain-washing. That is nonsense. Everyone has a choice and we make our own decisions about what we do. There is none of the exploitation or pressure on people that some people have described. In my opinion, it is a great shame that Amdi is in jail. But though I support him and the TG movement I believe that the TG should have adopted a policy of full compliance with both the letter and the spirit of the law, particularly concerning tax and school finances. Perhaps it is not too late for them to start to do so now, and to cooperate with the investigation. I look forward to considered responses to this posting. Former TG member

I have experinced a childhood where my mother found Tvind more important than her family. every agreement you could have with her, she would put aside if something regarding Tvind came in the way, the teachers group should decide what kind of upbringing me and my brothers should have, they should be heard when my mother got a new boyfriend, new years eve I often spend alone or with nabourgs,- never my mother, she was sent to work in the other end of the country even though she had two children living at home. My oldest brother should look after us,- etc etc My grandfathers enharitage has gone directly into Tvinds pockets

I know that their plan to transition into a residential "small school" for Emotionally Impaired children was headed off at the pass, but does that mean that IICD is still in the business of "training" DI's, or are they on to some other form of money-making effort?

Some three weeks ago Tvind Alert suddenly received hundreds of hits from Finland. Can our Finnish friend say if there was any interesting newspaper article or TV programme about Tvind or UFF to explain it? Thanks.

Here in Finland the UFF-cloth company is still one off the official charity organisations, and the young voluntary do-gooders really believe they are doing important work for the benefit of the developing countries, and of course they refuse to believe anything else. And they are really agressive about it.

To Every person who has written a negative comment on this webpage, I just wanted to clear up some things. I am not bashing you. I would just like you to find my comments down below and read them. I hope you have actually made the effort to read the comments written by other people before jumping to conclusions about what this site is about, and not following the story that your teacher has told you in the training schools. For those of you who don't know me, I am a past IICD-MI volunteer. In fact my team (who is still there.. and whom I still keep in touch with), is going to be leaving soon for Africa quite soon--which was where I really wanted to go. But I had to leave because of reasons beyond my control. Leaving an organization that you know is morally and ethically wrong is incredibly hard because this organization seems so fantastic on the outside. Because you have people telling you what you want and need to hear. Because of the people you meet--your fellow volunteers who are just as idealistic and fantastic as you are. It is NOT the members of the organization that I object too or dislike. In fact I have to admit that I still like as a person the director of IICD, because she is doing something that she completely believes in. What I don't like is the Organization itself. The Head Honchos who know EXACTLY what and where the money goes (and it isn't into the projects, let me tell you that). This organization has sucked out my ideals. I tried to climb back up the ladder and get the Pulitzer Winner Globe and Mail Writer Victor Malerek to do a story on the Guatemala team (he had come to my house and interviewed all of us, taken our picture, was going to do a personal level of what really happens at the schools, and the emotions you are put through), but he-- the one who preached to us about how not to give up our ideals.. and that he is a fighter for what's right.. curled up into a ball and canned the story the day the story (in my point of view.. a bad one, one that really doesn't explain what Humana People to People is capable of) covered the front page of the rival newspaper--the Toronto Star. So from that day forward I dropped my campaign to educate others about IICD, and Humana People to People, I also stopped visiting this site. I spent the next month and half trying to get my life in order.. finding a job, planning what I was going to do in September. I even tried for other volunteer organizations, but they were a no-go.. either too expensive, or the recuitment for 2002 had already been done. But I have discovered this week a fantastic Canadian Volunteer Organization called CUSO. I unfortunately will not be able to go for it this year, as I have made plans for myself for the next year already, but I am planning to look into it seriously for the year after. For any Canadian who is feeling stuck and low because they feel like they can't find a better organization than Humana People to People, check out CUSO (website: www.cuso.org). It is this organization that has lifted my spirits. That has made me think that I may still be able to carry out my dreams of becoming an overseas volunteer. Or buy the book "How to live out your dreams of becoming an overseas volunteer" and discover many many other organizations which are rated and investigated by non-biased authors. If you don't know who I am, please read my story and comments below.. you may have to scroll down a lot.. it is after all those polish comments... it has been a long time since I was last here. yet nothing has changed. Humana is still running, IICD-MI had its grand opening of the new school last weekend.... and people are still getting exploited... though I do hear from people that less and less people are getting recruited by my area. I think the Tvind Teachers Group does a lot of good, for example the refugee centre in Groot Deunk, Holland, which I visited a number of times in the late eighties and early nineties. Why don't some of the sceptics and critics out there think about that for a change?

Ja jestem teraz na fundraisingu w sztokholmie - najlepsze jest to, ze nie mamy akomodacji, nie mamy pieniedzy (musielismy kupic bilety na pociag, bo w szwecji podobnoz jazda stopem jest zabroniona, a poza tym ludziom ktorzy ze mna tu przyjechali nieco odbija w tym kierunku) i jeszcze nie moge nikogo spotkac, bo dwojka z nich (cyril i jaakko) nie przyszla na meeting, na ktory sie umowilismy, a reszta ma przyjechac do sztokholmu jakims niewidzialnym autobusem (pytalam na dworcu autobusowym, sprawdzalam w rozkladach jazdy i wyglada na to, ze owy autobus nie istnieje - co zreszta nie dziwi mnie specjalnie, bo siedza juz w malmo od wczorajszego wieczora przegapiajac wszystkie kolejne polaczenia, heh).

Zachowywała się dziwnie spokojnie,często siedziała sama w kuchni i patrzyła na sufit.Miała problemy ze swoją psychiką i widać było,że jest w innym świecie. My nie wiemy jakie warunki z nią ustalano bo każdy chętny do pracy dla tej sekty ma indywidualne rozmowy.

W pierwszym dniu pracy w UFF przypadkiem zobaczyłem jak owa Anka vel Marta kradnie bluzkę damską i stanik i dość ostro zwrciłem jej uwagę by tego nie robiła bo my Polacy też tu pracujemy i co sobie o nas pomyślą inni ludzie.

Od tego dnia owa Anka vel Marta przestała się do mnie odzywać. My pracę zakończyliśmy po około trzech tygodniach od poznania tej osoby. Jest to dziewczyna ,ktra zachowaniem swoim przypomina 5 letnie dziecko a ma około 22 lat.

O naszych problemach w Tvind i Bogence tylko słyszała z ust sekciarzy bo nie była razem z nami tam i nie widziała co myśmy przeszli a lodwkę z Tvind zamykaną na kłdkę mamy na zdjęciu i wiele innych atrakcji tej sekty o ktrej Anka vel Marta jeszcze nie wie.

W szkole w Bogence są domki drewniane oddalone od szkoły i to tam nas izolowano w czasie infomitingu przez trzy dni ,my mamy to na kasecie video i na zdięciach ale nie jesteśmy tymi kłamstwami zaskoczeni bo po takiej drodze kłamstwa i chamstwa jakie nam zafundowała ta sekta uodporniliśmy się na wyznania uciekającej przed życiem dziewczyny typu Anka vel Marta.

I can't speak for the other schools but I am sure that anyone who has worked at the Bustrup school will have had a great experience. The teachers there are committed people who genuinenly care about their students' welfare and development. I had a great time there and so did many other 'volunteers' and Teacher Group people that I knew well. They also did a lot for the ethnic minorities in the local area, like Palestinians and Tamils etc, who are often otherwise excluded from society at large to an extent in Denmark. They invited them to the school, had special programs for them at the schools, served halal food, encouraged diverse traditions and much more. There was a lot of theatre, music and sport, and caring for the environment and animals. I loved that place and the people, and there was certainly none of the 'exploitation' described by one writer below. I am sorry that the movement has taken a wrong turn with this tax evasion allegation and I hope they can get over it. I agree with the 'former TG member' below who said that they should go for full compliance with the letter and the spirit of the law. It would be a shame to see all that hard work gone to waste. I certainly wouldn't want to see the Bustrup school and teachers tarred with the same brush. That's my two pennies worth!

It's a shame that otherwise useful contributions like some below from the 'former TG member' for example seem to prompt such moronic responses. I was a vulunteer some years ago at a Danish Tvind school and I too found it a 'rewarding' experience personally. Of course we should all be doing things that reward us personally - it's not ALL about philanthropy. Perhaps because I am of rather more mature years than the 'average' volunteer (and I met many during my stint) I had few of the 'hang ups' that others describe. I did not find the organisation exploitative. I DID have many questions to raise with the principal at my school and the discussions about teaching techniques, materials, lifestyle were ongoing. But it was not exploitative. I did some work too for DAPP in Denmark and that too was rewarding for me and for my class group. Though classed as a 'volunteer' I received a reasonable wage and soem of my financial obligations in the UK were paid by the school. I know many of the other young volunteers and can't imagine any of them writing the accounts that this site posts. They all had a good time, more or less, and went on to do good things. I know of one who went on to be a TG member for two years but then quit, but remained at the school as a salaried teacher. As one of the TG teachers told me frequently: 'You can have it as you want it in the TG.'

Tvind has been passed off to you as being "an experiment in living." In reality it is an experiment in how much Tvind can get away with, making money off the backs of ego-centered persons like you who want to believe they are living lofty, novel and insightful lives. Every "former TG member" who continues to defend Tvind seems to need to sidestep that reality, so obviously Tvind's fun little experiment is working. What colour are the emperor's clothes today, did you say?

You say it was rewarding for you to live "in the way of Tvind." At least you are honest enough to admit that your involvement was about YOU, for your own reward. (as opposed to proclaiming your reasons for involvement to be for service, for the betterment of the world -- TG members often skew that perception-- that is to say, that what they want to perceive as making a BIG, IMPORTANT contribution is actually just an experiment in patting themselves on the back for blindly doing what their leaders are telling them is "the right work, the only work, the very BEST kind of work" -- You, it seems are at least saying you were involved with the TG because what you did, whatever it was, felt good to YOU. It's all about motivation.)

If the TG wants to go off and live their lives collectively, without exploiting anybody (from child "small school students" to volunteers to the "targets-populations" of ill-founded, half-formulated development projects in the Third World, to NGOs, to the well-meaning governmental bodies -- scorned all the way by the TG -- who have been convinced over the years to fund TG programmes all over the world in the name of selfless service), I have no problem with that. And I would have no problem with the TG using the money they make (ALL OF IT) to actually do the work they say they are doing with it. But the TG isn't set up to work like that -- it hasn't been from the first. It's set up to make money -- LOTS OF IT -- for the interests of the upper echelon TG leaders. If you don't understand that, then you ARE naive.

Thank you for your responses to my commnents below on the request for reports of actual meetings with Amdi Petersen. My comments are based solely on my experience in the TG schools in Denmark, so I cannot comment on Tvind as a development organisation. Just as I proposed that the TG follow the letter and spirit of the law regarding taxation and fiscalpolicy, I believe that they should also abide by whatever code of practice exists to ensure the good governance and maximum effectiveness of their development projects. For those who have not experienced Tvind, it is, as one person mentioned below, an experimental way of living, and can be a very renewing and rewarding experience. Steen Thomsen's report is written with extreme bias. I hope that not everyone will view Tvind and the TG in the manner in which he has painted it. I, like many of you, have criticisms of Tvind. But my criticisms are based on experience and a willingness to contribute constructively. Many of the criticisms offered on this site (though I accept by no means all) are not based on personal experience, but are merely prejudicial to the wish of TG members to live their lives collectively in the manner they choose. My hope is that they would continue to exist (and thrive) alongside the Danish or other educational systems and international aid and development organisations, but in a way that ensures they follow the letter and spirit of the law. The Danes have made a witchhunt of their persecution of Tvind and the TG. To those who consider me naive or the victim of subtle brainwashing, I assure you that my thoughts are based on long term consideration, but there is little I can offer in my defence. The accusation of naivety is a powerful and rather disarming one which may cause others to disregard my views. I could have said the same about you but I choose not to, favouring instead open debate. Is it simply that people like the Former TG Member below are naive? Is that what it is? Is it that they are so truly uneducated, unskilled, inexperienced in how one goes about doing real, intentional development work, that they don't know enough to understand that the activities of Tvind are minimally effective for their supposed target populations? The latest request on the home page of this site for reports from people who have actually met Amdi Petersen is a cynical exercise. It is an attempt at a self-fulfilling prophecy masquerading as an attempt to establish fact. Anyone who has read the personal reports that are already posted about the various experiences of former members of the TG and volunteers will know that the the findings are bound to focus on his 'charisma' and ability to 'manipulate' people. I don't think you really want to hear these accounts from people because you have already made up your mind(s) that Amdi and/or the TG is interested in mind-control or brain-washing. This exercise will only serve to reinforce the image that you already have/propagate about Amdi. For the record, I HAVE met Amdi. It was while I was a member of the TG, and he IS charismatic. But I dispute the assertion made in reports on your site (particulalry by former member and firemoeller/winestead principal Steen) that either Amdi P. or the TG are involved in mind control or brain-washing. That is nonsense. Everyone has a choice and we make our own decisions about what we do. There is none of the exploitation or pressure on people that some people have described. In my opinion, it is a great shame that Amdi is in jail. But though I support him and the TG movement I believe that the TG should have adopted a policy of full compliance with both the letter and the spirit of the law, particularly concerning tax and school finances. I have experinced a childhood where my mother found Tvind more important than her family. every agreement you could have with her, she would put aside if something regarding Tvind came in the way, the teachers group should decide what kind of upbringing me and my brothers should have, they should be heard when my mother got a new boyfriend, new years eve I often spend alone or with nabourgs,- never my mother, she was sent to work in the other end of the country even though she had two children living at home. My oldest brother should look after us,- etc etc My grandfathers enharitage has gone directly into Tvinds pockets

I know that their plan to transition into a residential "small school" for Emotionally Impaired children was headed off at the pass, but does that mean that IICD is still in the business of "training" DI's, or are they on to some other form of money-making effort?

Some three weeks ago Tvind Alert suddenly received hundreds of hits from Finland. Can our Finnish friend say if there was any interesting newspaper article or TV programme about Tvind or UFF to explain it? Thanks.
