In addition to its extensive Caribbean and Central American landholdings, the Teachers Group has spent handsomely on property and ships for itself.

Its extraordinary architect-designed Mexico headquarters, TG Pacifico, is rumoured to have cost around $10 million.  The Humana People-to-People international HQ, at Shamva in the bush in rural Zimbabwe, looks a similar custom-built palace.

1960s: Amdi Petersen founds radical commune in Odense, Denmark

1967-69: Petersen travels on hippie trail to India and twice around the world, conceives the idea of alternative school system

1969: First ‘Travelling Folk High School’ (DRH School) opens, Fanø Island, Denmark

1970: Inauguration of the ‘U Group’, precursor of the Teachers Group

1972: ‘Necessary Teachers Training College’ (DNS) opens, Tvind, Denmark

1977: Second hand clothes collections begin and UFF founded, Denmark.  Inauguration of Fælleseje (‘Common Ownership Trust’).

Humana People-to-People HQ, Zimbabwe – modernist building at Shamva 30 km from Harare. The buildings formally opened by President Robert Mugabe.
