Byens Lys ('City Lights') School

Holsted, Denmark

"Byens Lys "("City Lights") is the Tvind school at Holsted and shares the same building as DRH Holsted.

Readers write:

September 2003:   At present there are only four students and desperate attempts are being made to raise this number to six which is the minimum number demanded by the Danish authorities.     The fees paid by local authoritIes are over 30,000Dkr. per student per month so it is a nice little earner.

In May 2003 a teacher tried to restrain a girl from entering Byens Lys as he said it was not allowed. The girl's head hit the wall and she received concussion which resulted in medical attention for some days. It was with difficulty that active police involvement was avoided. In the same month, another Byens Lys student took a large  knife from the kitchen to confront two local youths.
