Country profiles
Humana People-to-People
This
organisation began in 1977 in Scandinavia and was part of the expansion of Tvind from a Danish
alternative school system to a wealthy international organisation.
Humana People to People now operates in 50 countries under several different names. Humana is its name in most of Europe and the name is also used elsewhere. In Scandinavia it is UFF. In Africa it is DAPP or ADPP. In the United States and Canada it is Planet Aid, in central America it is Ayuda al Planeta.
In principle, Humana and the other charities raise money from the rich countries of the North to finance development aid projects in Africa and central America - getting cash from charity clothes recycling and many other sources of income.
In
reality, there are serious and growing doubts about whether Humana's
wealth has really been used for the benefit of the poor in developing
countries. Where is the evidence?

In the late 1990s Humana People-to-People's world headquarters was moved from Denmark to Zimbabwe (above), where it was opened by Petersen's friend the Zimbabwean dictator, Robert Mugabe.
