About Amdi
In
March 2003, the criminal trial began of a
64 year old self-styled international 'revolutionary' named Amdi Petersen.
With seven 'comrades', he is charged with a $24 million (15 million) international charity fraud.
It promises to be a sensational case. The trial takes place in Denmark and will last until October 2004. All of Scandinavia is gripped by the case. It is of worldwide interest too - as this web site demonstrates.
Petersen is the founder of an international network of supposed good causes - the worldwide 'Humana' development aid charity - together with a political movement, 'Tvind'. He claimed to be raising money in the rich North to help the poor in Africa.
Over 30 years he amassed donations from well wishers and official hand-outs all over the world - and still does. Charities exist today in Europe, the USA and most developed countries.
But
in 2001, Danish police issued a warrant for his arrest. They
contend some of the charities are bogus, and that Petersen helped
himself to millions of
pounds. This police action corresponds to misgivings helf by
many about the Humana charities for years.
