Gaia       Clothes collection and 'environmental projects'

Gaia-Movement Trust Living Earth Green World Action (Chicago, Britain and Switzerland)

This name is used in several ways by the Teachers Group

Gaia, USA

Around 300 clothes banks across Chicago, and two shops ('thrift stores'). Gaia is registered in Illinois as a not-for-profit and claims to support vague environmental good causes.

But Gaia is clearly part of Tvind, an organisation that is cynically clear-felling the Brazilian rainforest for commercial gain.   There are complaints in progress to the Chicago Community Loan Fund and other organisations.

Gaia-Movement Trust, Switzerland

A dodgy Swiss financial association founded in May, 1998 and located at an accommodation address at the World Trade Centre in Geneva (left).   Nearly all signatories are TG members.  No evidence of charity work of any kind and post was being forwarded to a Teachers Group address in Amsterdam.

In 2000 the office address belonged to Michael Rogers, a British-born lawyer who is also a signatory of the association.   Rogers is a controversial figure in his own right.   Contacted by Tvind Alert, Rogers said he was providing an address to business associates.

Green World Recycling, Britain

One of several major Teachers Group clothes recycling companies in the UK, uses exactly the same posters on its bins as Gaia Chicago.   Green World has been exposed as a fraud by the British newspaper the Independent on Sunday, but continues to collect donated clothes and sell them in eastern Europe.   It is the subject of many complaints by legitimate charities and traders.

Green World collects clothes worth hundreds of thousands of pounds - perhaps up to 1 million - a year.   The extravagant claims on its bins about the 'environmental projects' do not add up.  We believe the money goes to the Teachers Group.

Green World was set up by the TG in around 1998, the year Humana UK was closed down by the Charity Commission for fraud and the same year Gaia Trust in Switzerland was established.
